It's that time of year again! 2024 is coming to a close, and that's my cue to post my BestOf, looking back on my most favourite and memorable interpreting moments of the year.
The first thing that comes to my mind is the three-day assignment at a pharmaceutical audit including an interpreting session in the cleanroom. Next in line was a hands-on assignment about renaturation projects and the subsequent use of various industrial monuments and sites in the Ruhr region in pouring rain.
Another personal highlight from this year is the celebration of 25 years of Industrial Heritage Route, where I had the incredible privilege of translating Dr. Adam Hajduga, Vice President of the European Route of Industrial Heritage, during a very interesting and inspiring panel discussion on opening night at Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site in Essen.
Interpreting at the world’s leading garden and BBQ trade fair in Cologne was right up my alley, including the translation of the guided tours through selected exhibitors' booths.
After the summer break I had the pleasure to translate the Brave New Voices format in a series of wonderful assignments at the Ruhrtriennale in Bochum.
During my offsite interpreting assignment in Porto, Portugal, I paid Livraria Lello a visit. Legend has it that this bookshop may have inspired the moving staircase at Hogwarts from the Harry Potter series (ticking off another thing from my list of Harry Potter hotspots I have visited so far). The year was rounded off with a once-in-a-lifetime simultaneous interpretation assignment at the German Dance Award, the most prestigious prize for dance in Germany.
I will take a break from December 23 and be back in the new year on January 6, 2025. Thank you to all my readers, colleagues, clients, partners and friends for a fabulous year. I wish you happy holidays and a prosperous new year.
